A Global Network of Hope: Joelle Birge

A Global Network of Hope: Joelle Birge

Our guest Joelle Birge talks to us about the work of Missio Invest, a global Catholic network of lenders and agricultural entrepreneurs.

Inspired by Pope Francis’s call to address food insecurity, Missio Invest identifies under-utilized Church-owned farmland, which can become a source of food, jobs, and training for surrounding communities. We help these farms to realize their full potential through investment capital, as well as technical assistance throughout the project lifecycle.

Joelle Birge joined Missio Invest in June 2017 after receiving an MBA and MA in International Studies (focus in French) from the Wharton School and Lauder Institute at the University of Pennsylvania. While completing her Masters, she became passionate about impact investing in Sub-Saharan Africa through working with Vulcan Impact Investing, as well as leading a pro bono consulting project for VillageReach Mozambique.
